Four species of eagles are found in Israel today. The species featured in the painting, circœtos gallicus, resides in all areas of the Middle East and is known for emitting a wonderful variety of musical whistling notes. Eagles inhabited Israel well before its birth, 3500 years ago. They are frequently mentioned in the bible, where they are respected for their elegance, swiftness, keen sight and longevity.
